Every year, the Hanseatic city celebrates Pride Week to set an example for acceptance, equality and diversity. The history of CSD in Hamburg dates back to the summer of 1980, when homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals first demonstrated for their rights and tolerance on the streets of the city. In 2022, Hamburg was voted one of the most queer-friendly cities in Europe in third place – just behind Berlin, whose CSD is one of the biggest Pride events on the continent.
In just a few days, it will be that time again: Hamburg Pride Week starts on Saturday, July 26, under the motto “We are here to stay. Protect queer people.” and runs until the beginning of August. It culminates in the Christopher Street Day Parade on August 2. The Pride celebrations continue until August 3. You can find all the important information about the events during this time and the CSD parade here!

What you can expect at Hamburg Pride
For around a week, numerous associations, initiatives and groups from the LGBTQ+ community will be organizing exciting events. As diverse as queer life in Hamburg, you can expect a varied program – from exhibitions and city tours to parties. Cultural institutions, clubs and restaurants will also be taking part with colorful events. Traditionally, Hamburg Pride opens on July 26 with the Pride Night at Kampnagel. The Pride Awards will also be presented there, hosted by “The Queer Mom” Didine van der Platenvlotbrug, followed by a big party. If you don’t want to miss the grand opening, you can get your tickets for the evening here! The Pride House in the heart of St. Georg serves as a central contact point for queer exchange. During Pride Week, workshops, talks and readings on a wide range of queer topics await you there.
And to get you in the right mood before the CSD demo on August 2, the big Pride Party will be held at Uebel & Gefährlich on August 1. Acts such as Hollywood Tramp and Ivo Bischoff await you on the pop floor, while the electronic floor with Fixie Fate and Mark Hartmann will ensure the best atmosphere.

CSD street festival
On the weekend of 1 to 3 August, the streets from Jungfernstieg to Ballindamm will be transformed into a colorful Pride mile. Around 59 trucks and over 100 groups are expected. Under the powerful motto “We are here to stay. Protect queer people.”, around 250,000 people will demonstrate together for diversity and visibility. The highlight: the big CSD demo on August 2, which starts at 12 noon and lasts until around 4:30 pm. There will be live audio description for blind and visually impaired people and barrier-free access to the demo. As every year, the Hamburg Pride board and various politicians will lead the parade.
This will be followed by the official CSD closing party: the Pink Pauli Festival – on a whopping 16 floors! Locations such as Bahnhof Pauli, Spielbudenplatz, Prinzenbar, Mojo, Wunderbar and many more will be involved. Look forward to acts such as Hollywood Tramp, Miss Ivanka T., Robin Solf and numerous other highlights. There will also be specials such as a tattoo station, live drag shows, a 360° photo booth and much more.
