Mehr als hundert Jahre nach seiner Erfindung bleibt der Ursprung des Burgers ebenso unklar wie seine Beziehung zu der Stadt, nach der er angeblich benannt wurde. Einige Theorien besagen, dass er zuerst auf der transatlantischen Schiffslinie Hamburg-Amerika serviert wurde. Laut anderen, wurde er von dem deutschen Auswanderer Otto Kuase im 19. Jahrhundert erfunden.
Was auch immer die wahre Geschichte der Stadt ist, es lässt sich nicht leugnen, dass Hamburger und Hamburgerinnen die Burger lieben. So sehr, dass sich die Hansestadt rühmen kann, die meisten und besten Burger-Restaurants in ganz Europa zu haben. Das besagt zumindest eine aktuelle Rangliste, die von der Firma HelloFresh – die Pakete mit vorbereiteten Zutaten und Rezepten für die Zubereitung zu Hause verschickt – erstellt wurde.
Auf der Suche nach der Burger-Hauptstadt Europas
Diese Rangliste trägt den Namen „Die Burger-Hauptstädte Europas„. Ziel ist es, so die Macher, „die untersuchten Städte auf ihre Eignung für Burger-Liebhaber hin zu vergleichen“. Zu diesem Zweck wurden insgesamt 66 europäische Städte verglichen und in drei verschiedenen Kategorien bewertet.
Zum einen wurde die Anzahl der Burger-Restaurants in jeder Stadt betrachtet. Dazu haben die Mitarbeiter von HelloFresh manuell die durchschnittliche Anzahl von Burger-Restaurants aus Google Maps für jede Stadt (!) entnommen und dies auch für vegetarische und vegane Burger getan.
Zweitens wurde für jede der 66 Städte der Durchschnittspreis für einen Burger analysiert. Diese Daten wurden ebenfalls von Google Maps übernommen – allerdings nur von Restaurants mit einer Online-Speisekarte.
Schließlich untersuchten die Forscher auch die allgemeine Qualität der Burger-Restaurants. Oder besser gesagt, die Bewertung von Tausenden von Nutzern in Google Reviews: Anhand der Anzahl der Burger-Restaurants mit 4- und 5-Sterne-Bewertungen errechneten sie eine durchschnittliche Qualifikation.
Jede Qualifikation wurde dann standardisiert und addiert, um das Endergebnis zu erhalten.
Die höchste Qualität, aber nicht die günstigsten Preise
In zwei der drei genannten Kategorien ist Hamburg führend. Mit insgesamt 301 Burger-Läden in der Innenstadt, davon 58 vegetarische, hat sie die höchste Anzahl und Vielfalt auf dem ganzen Kontinent. Dasselbe gilt für die Anzahl der hoch bewerteten Lokale: Die Hansestadt kann sich rühmen, mehr als 77 solche Restaurants mit einer 4-Sterne-Bewertung und 78 mit einer Vier- bis Fünf-Sterne-Bewertung zu haben.
Wenn Hamburg jedoch mit einer Sache nicht mithalten kann, dann sind es die allgemeinen Preise. Mit einem Durchschnittspreis von 7,43 € für einen einzigen Burger rangiert die Stadt nur auf Platz 36 – weit entfernt von Skopje. In der nordmazedonischen Stadt kostet ein Burger im Schnitt schlappe 2,92 €.
Doch dieser Unterschied von weniger als 5 € ist es sicherlich wert, wenn man die unbestreitbare gastronomische Qualität kauft.
