Hamburg not only impresses with its culinary diversity, lively music scene, art and nearby beach paradises – its airport is also once again attracting international recognition. On Thursday evening, Hamburg Airport was honored for the fifth time at a festive gala in Athens with one of the highest awards in European aviation: the “Best Airport Award 2025” in the 10-25 million passenger category. The award is presented by Airports Council International (ACI), which has already recognized Hamburg Airport as the best in its class in 2012, 2013, 2018 and 2020. This year, the airport once again impressed with its strong combination of service quality, passenger comfort, digital innovation and environmental commitment.
An important factor: over 80 percent of passengers pass through security at Hamburg Airport in less than ten minutes. This is made possible by modern CT technology, digital passenger guidance, automated processes and innovations such as the popular “Slot & Fly” reservation system or the new Smart Gates, which offer fast and convenient access to security. Families with children will also benefit: Children’s play corners and seating areas are continuously being modernized, as is the equipment with free water dispensers, numerous power sockets and massage chairs – comfort that is noticeably appreciated.
The airport can now carry the title “Best Airport Award 2025” for one year – a clear sign of its consistent quality strategy. Hamburg Airport has also been a pioneer in climate protection for decades and is pursuing the ambitious goal of operating CO₂-free in ten years’ time. Christian Kunsch, CEO of Hamburg Airport, happily accepted the award: “The award is a strong signal for everyone at Hamburg Airport – this was a great team effort and a reward for my colleagues who do a great job every day. This award motivates us to boldly continue on our path: climate-friendly, service-oriented and based on partnership.”
With investments of over 20 million euros, the airport is planning further measures in the coming years to offer passengers an even better travel experience – made in Hamburg.
